Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB)
The Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards, managed by Verra, certify land use projects that deliver verifiable benefits across three areas:
climate change mitigation, support for local communities, and biodiversity conservation. Originally developed by the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance (a partnership including CARE, Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, the Rainforest Alliance, and the Wildlife Conservation Society), the standards apply to projects such as afforestation, reforestation, sustainable agriculture, and grassland management.
CCB-certified projects must ensure full stakeholder participation, respect customary and statutory land rights, obtain free, prior, and informed consent from communities, and maintain high conservation values. Projects undergo independent third-party auditing and are tracked on the Verra Registry.
CCB Standards are most commonly applied alongside Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), adding a CCB label to carbon credits that demonstrate additional social and environmental value. To date, more than 120 projects have been validated under the CCB Standards across over 48 countries, with more than 100 projects having verified benefits. This combination creates a market premium, helping fund projects that protect ecosystems while improving livelihoods.
